Blue is Home

It’s been a couple days since getting home with “Project Blue”. As expected, there are a number of things that will need to be done to get it truly road worthy.

The tires being 20 years old are just one of the matters that need attention. On that, it’s surprising how well they have held up. The bike was in a climate controlled basement for two thirds of its life and the tires are soft and grippy. If I didn’t see their age on the date-code, I would guess them to be only a year or two old. It’s remarkable. Still changing them out though.

There is some signs that oil is leaking onto the first muffler. Not a lot, but something that will need attention eventually.

The carbs will get a full rebuild. I see some fuel varnish on the lower carb bodies, so there’s a leak in there somewhere. I am not sure if it was stored with an empty tank, but I don’t see anything worrying inside the tank after sending a bore scope in to look around.

Since my basement is fully taken over by Project Red, this will need to get squeezed into the garage for a bit of refresh work.

I am also going to swap out most of the lights for LEDs since this is pretty much invisible at night. New fuel hoses are on order, as are new suspension components, and carb kits.

The previous owner was a not as tall as I am and had a custom rear shock which lowered the tail by at least an inch. I’ll also order some progressive springs for the front while I am at it.
