Southwest Adventure on an R18 – Day 3

I woke up today craving a breakfast burrito. According to several foodie sites, Barrista Del Barrio is the place to go. This quirky neighborhood joint had a 40-minute line. It was a shamble of a place with various unmatched outdoor furniture under thrown together awnings. You could imagine it just being in the back yard of someone’s house, which this building clearly used to be. The burrito was excellent and the coffee as well. Lots of folks to chat with and many are intrigued by a guy on a motorcycle in January.

I had considered heading to Winslow or Tombstone today on my route east. Turns out, that would require a bit of mountain pass driving and all this rain is snow on that road. So, change of plan. The worst of this front passed by in the night, but there was still off and on rain all day today no matter where I decided to go. I did not want to continually run from weather, so I turned around and rode through the rest of it. My new destination for today was Lake Havasu.

I headed back toward Gila Bend where I stopped for lunch and fuel. There’s a lot of old Americana to be enjoyed. Too bad I don’t have a sticker to add to the dinosaur.

Riding through the dessert with off and on rain was actually really enjoyable. It was not too cold and not too wet. The R18 did a good job of blocking just enough of it.

After Gila Bend, the road to Lake Havasu was the best one yet. Once you get to Parker, the road follows the Colorado River and has stunning mountain and canyon views.

I had to take the obligatory photo of London Bridge in Arizona.

Bonus! It’s like the Hampton knew I would need to hang my wet gear up to dry for the night.
